Over a hundred years ago Black Elk had a vision of the time when the Lakota people would heal from the devastating effects of European migration. In his vision the Sacred Hoop which had been broken, would either be mended in seven generations or else the Nation would die. The children born into this decade will be the seventh generation.
We hope that by taking school supplies to the children on the Reservation that we have some small part in the healing of the Lakota people. This year we took 550 backpacks to the village of Allen, Wounded Knee and Calico. Below is an interview with Dawn Frank, president of Calico Community on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
